Do We Really Care About Long-Term Plans?

Rick Schwartz penned a long post today, highlighting his vision for the next 20 years – partnering with interested parties to develop his extensive portfolio of premium domain names. It is a delightful read, as most of Rick’s work is. And it is a very appreciable sentiment – to build slow, build steady, and create long-term value.

But it is a sentiment that will fall on deaf ears, I’m afraid.

That Was Then…

Several years ago I owned and operated Numeric Domains before selling it to the current owner. Using the old Wayback Machine (now archive.org) I decided to take a walk back in time. It was only 4 short years ago, but it seems like an eternity, to see what I was blogging about and the state of the domain industry in general and numeric domains in particular.

That Was Then… is a review of the articles I wrote and a light-hearted look at the issues, events andpeople that were then shaping the domain industry and contributed to my success as a domain asset manager.

The Domain King and Others Who “Get It”…

Love him or hate him you have to give Rick Schwartz credit because credit is due. For those that have never heard of the self-proclaimed Domain King, Rick is one of the most successful domain asset managers and, even though he has cut back a bit recently, he remains one of the most proficient domain bloggers slugging it out on the web today.

He is also the south Floridian that sold iReport.com to CNN for $750,000, (now iReport.cnn.com), Candy.com to the Melville Candy Company for $3 million plus a revenue share, Men.com for $1.3 million and signature others.
