This post is right on the money and exactly why celebrated venture rock star of Hunch and Flickr, Catherine Fake (even though she is 99% failure and 1/2 percent x-husband according to wiki) choses dumb names that become someone else's problems see my comments here: http://www.thedomains.com/2012/02/27/the-founder-of-flickr-maybe-on-the-other-side-as-pinweel-com-threatens-over-pinwheel-com/

Also sounds like foreign tongue "Plixi was acquired by Lockerz while Pixlr was acquired by AutoDesk which is no relation to Desk.com purchased by Salesforce.com to reface and save the worthless idea called assity that suddenly became a goldmine with the right branding and a captive customer base to sell its products to. If it doesn't pass the spell check or come up when you call 411 without a human, it's dead on arrival in 2012. No editor is going to reach out to confirm a name spelling. They move on to the next press release and golden "free marketing" opportunities are forever lost at the critical start up stage.

You'll find most of the start-ups that chose those names ending up here:
http://techcrunch.com/tag/deadpool/

btw, The list you have compiled above is also a great list of potential domains for a second life with some other idea- that are not openly on the Aftermarket but being of little or no use to the acquiring company, can often be acquired through private offers and negotiations.

I read few articles because most suck. I liked this one though because I was curious if any sites got smacked hard. Looks like Google really did do it.

I give Rick credit. He does know the right way. You buy a good domain and sit on it. Now if you have the skills then develop it and use SEO to get it ranked. This is the way to go. I bought http://wordunscrambler.com and on my free time keep adding to it. It is not easy but it is better than doing 1000 websites that all get crushed by google.
I suspect Rick will cover this on his blog soon.

I noticed that also, that the names were a little weak from both places. On the other hand. Brannans has some amazing names and is using Proxibid to run the auction. California.com is one of the names. Can't beat that one.

That's not entirely accurate.
To start with whether the IEDR will be able to make the changes to allow for this kind of auction is debatable and the rules surrounding .ie domains are not restricted to Irish residents and businesses only. A non-Irish business can register a .ie domain name, but it's quite complicated compared to other domain extensions.

I agree that anchor text is the main issue of this update... or rather overuse of certain keywords in anchor text links. I wrote a post about it here http://www.seo-services.com/the-google-over-optimization-penalty/general/
I really hope this penalty associated with the anchor text will be taken away. I have an exact match domain name, and got hit by this penalty.
Your idea of starting a new fresh domain might be a viable option, especially while waiting out this current penalty.
